The boss is coming – look busy. « BT Viewpoint. Modern comms channels #btot

As part of its on-going development of a modern work place I reckon BT has over 20 ways of communicating. In addition to the traditional methods we use audio conferencing, web conferencing, blogs, instant messaging, bulletin boards, landing pages, RSS, on-line videos, document sharing sites, knowledge exchanges, webinars, mash-ups, social networking and dynamic web pages. It all adds up to a rich and varied choice that can be used to effectively communicate with an employee base where over 70,000 staff are mobile and over 9,000 work permanently from home.

Excellent post by Steve Gillies, BT’s Head of Agile Working where he emphasises how effective tools mean it’s easy to communicate with a dispersed workforce

  1. This might be a bit provocative, but you could also call it a mish mash. How does one choose which is the best medium in any given circumstance? Does every worker have access to every medium, or is some audience being lost? It’s the same set of tools at Verizon Business, but it’s not clear (to me) how you measure effectiveness in a universally acceptable way.Notwithstanding, I think BT’s approach to flexible working is class-leading.. 🙂
